Jazz is - in my opinion - the most important addition of the 20th century to the field of music. Jazz has continually developed over the past 100 years. 
My personal favourites are: 

• jazz of the 30s and 40s 
• so-called Mainstream  
• New Orleans, Chicago-Jazz  
• Bebop und Cool 

in other words: Jazz styles that originated between 1920 and 1950 with an interest in everything that has happened since.
